Energy conservation funding - good news

Older houses could benefit from almost £5.7m of funding for insulation secured by Cambridgeshire Councils.

The successful bid is to the Green Deal Communities fund, and will provide grants to householders to significantly reduce the cost of insulating solid wall, steel framed properties and park homes. My interest is solid walls in a conservation area. A lot of village houses in Thriplow and Whittlesford fallinto  this category.

South Cambs's excellent Parish Energy Scheme will arrange and co-ordinate.. The areas identified will focus on the private rented sector, off gas households and conservation areas across Cambridgeshire.

Typically, older and non-standard properties have been considered more expensive to insulate and the funding will provide an opportunity for residents to make improvements at a greatly reduced rate.

Residents will be required to make a contribution but by taking advantage of Green Deal Finance there are no up-front costs.
