In early April the County Council Planning Committee will visit the Vetspeed site on the A505 and then make a decision about the proposals for a new taller chimney.
As described before, the new process for burning waste without oxygen Vetspeed want to use is cutting edge technology. There have been concerns that the chimney is too close and too tall to the airfield flight path, and that old planes coming in to land could get into trouble. An independent report commissioned by the county council appears to be saying that there is less of a problem than at first appeared.
The new work at the VetSpeed site (aka the Pet Crematorium) will mean many more lorries taking waste material to the site, along the A505.
One positive is that the new process - because of its scale, not because it is new - will be much more closely monitored by the Environment Agency than at the moment. I have leafleated the whole of Heathfield and Thriplow seeking people's views on this, as I will be at the visit and the committee meeting as the local councillor and I will have the right to say what we think about this.
