Looking at the prices being sought for flats at Ninewells just south of Addenbrookes, it seems that the south of Cambridge is essentially a suburb of London as far as property prices go.
One issue that will come to the fore in the next few months is do we want "affordable" houses as in rented properties run by housing associations and/or the council, or do we want "starter" houses for young people on limited incomes.
Now central government is pushing very much to the latter option, whereas a mix would probably be better because where do your key workers live - Haverhill?
South Cambs are stuck in the middle, on this.
Closer to home this is why a discussion about the scrapyard site at Station Road in Whittlesford is worth setting up with the housing team at South Cambs, not just the planning team, so that we understand what is possible, and influence it.
Given the proximity to the railway station, this will be a very popular site and the houses will fly off the shelves, and what we want to avoid is that it simply becomes a dormitory for people working in London.
It is a microcosm of what the whole of South Cambs is wrestling with.
