Hinxton afloat

I have asked the county council if they can inspect the North End road at Hinxton because the water levels at that end of the village have risen again and the flood drains need sorting. There was some good work done there two winters ago but they have to keep up the maintenance.
I met with the highways team at the county before Xmas about the prolonged closure to the gates on the ford road and they maintain that the ford is too fast to cross safely. The manager checked the ford before Xmas and again before new year. It is true that the water levels are currently too high for the ford to open, and I checked it myself last week. At least cyclists and walkers can get round the gates after the county made good the path, after a year of pressure.

However the gates were locked weeks before Xmas. I have asked the county if they will find a way to treat and so reduce the algae at the ford which is one of the factors that makes the surface so slippery and increases the risks of vehicles not getting across. There is a useful website that shows the daily river levels at the Great Chesterford station - www.gaugemap.co.uk/Station/1600
