Anglian Water

Some residents of Whittlesford have had not just the hot weather to contend with, but some really awful problems with the drains and waste service. The problem recurred yesterday, shortly after I hadhad  a site visit with people to get a better understanding of the problem on the ground - or under the ground, in fact.

I spoke to the environmenthal health officers at South Cambs yesterday afternoon, and at roughly the same time the whole unpleasantness was starting again. I called Anglian Water yesterday evening and they called back today and have been round to apologise to residents. They have been working hard to get the problem fixed and there is remedial work going on at the pumping station next week.

But I don't think any of us are confident this will not recur, and so the pressure has to be kept up to ensure the underlying cause, not the symptoms, are dealt with.

The point of all this is that some people are suggesting that each village in south Cambs could take another bunch of houses, to share the burden of house building, but it seems to me that without the accompanying infrastructure ie schools and buses and roads and sewers, these extra houses scattered across the county in pennypackets  are simply not going to work.
