Lorries and villages - not a good mix

I was at Duxford's annual village meeting this evening, where the lorries tearing up and down Hunts Road was a key topic of discussion. Last week at Ickleton the HGV issue there was raised, and earlier in the month at Hinxton the lorries using Hunts Lane as a means of cutting a corner off the A505 was a main concern.
All three villages have two things in common - they are all adjacent to and parallel with the A505 and offer a quicker route when that main road is backed up with traffic, as it often is, and secondly, there are local businesses located within and beyond the villages which have large lorries making deliveries. It may be that the similarities and the shared roads means that there should be a joint meeting with the highways department to see what can be worked out in terms of traffic calming, speed and weight restrictions and diversions, across all three communities.
