Some 15 people went along to the parish council meeting in Whittlesford last evening. Their interest was to listen to the council consider the County Council proposal to ask the parish to extend the village framework. If this went ahead it would allow the County Council to sell the farmland to the west of Orchard Terrace to a developer to build 20 houses. Some would be affordable houses - possibly eight of them.
I spoke to people over the weekend who live nearby and who would be impacted - as a result I have received several emails from people who were unable to attend the parish meeting - all of whom thought the scheme was too much for the village and for Orchard Terrace in particular, all citing the narrowness of the access road. All were agreeable to the original smaller scheme of 6 to 8 houses built at the end of Orchard Terrace.
My understanding is that the county council is not pursuing this request to amend the village framework.
