More about Local Green Space

Hearing that a number of parish councils, including Whittlesford, are interested in using the Government’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF)  designation of a ‘Local Green Space’. This allows us to identify important sites and rule out new development other than in very special circumstances, rather like the Green Belt.

The space has to be:
-in reasonably close proximity to the community it serves;
-demonstrably special to a local community and holds a particular local significance, for example because of its beauty, historic significance, recreational value (including as a playing field), tranquillity or richness of its wildlife; and
- local in character and is not an extensive tract of land.
