Not really anything to do with Whittlesford or Thriplow, but one part of my day job which I really enjoy is the chance to meet farmers and talk with them, about the work they do growing the crops and raising the animals that feed us all.I spent today with a farmer out on the fens, an old chap who had all the facts and figures in his head - no need for a compooter - and was justifiably proud of his beef herd. The only concern must be - who is going to replace him and his brother when they finally call it a day? A quarter of British landowners are aged over 65. Anyway, on a bright cold February day, with the ice and snow melting and the young Friesians and Charolais pushing their inquisitive noses over the gates, it was a great sight...
