Protecting Villages - building new communities

A report in the national newspapers backed by data from the campaign for rural England says that villages across the country are disappearing because of large scale developments that are simply swallowing them up.
In South Cambridgeshire this is why the planned settlements at Northstowe, Waterbeach and others such as Cambourne West are so important. These are large villages (or even small towns) that are well-planned and with the right infrastructure of schools and roads and bus services, and pathways and green space, and the right mix of housing types, including affordable ones.
The detail of the planning and the forward look is that Northstowe will have its own cemetery.
Although there has been a spate of developments pushed onto villages in South Cambs because developers are keen and property prices are hot, and the Local Plan is still being scrutinised by the Govt Inspector,  it is nowhere near as bad as it would be without these planned new communities. These are the places that will do the heavy-lifting in terms of providing the real home to the thousands of families who want to live and work in this part of the country.
