Polecat Lane in Duxford completed

With the recent completion of resurfacing of the wonderfully titled Polecat Lane in Duxford, together with the resurfacing of the much longer Liberty Lane earlier in the year, the boys in the highways team at the depot at Whittlesford have surpassed themselves.
When we first started on this about 18 months ago there was much shaking of heads about council budgets and priorities, but we persevered including asking the school to write in to say how much families walking to school along the footpaths reduced traffic in the centre of the village. A particularly ancient wall needed careful handling, and much of the work had to be done by wheelbarrow and manual labour as the paths were too narrow to get powered diggers and rollers in.
It is true that with the challenges to budgets, and the demands to do major upgrades such as the recent high quality resurfacing of the A505, the opportunities for doing this sort of work are not frequent.

But if we are to keep villages as places where people can walk, skip, or safely use a mobility scooter, then these things are worth doing.
