Race is on to plant Thriplow Gold!

The Thriplow Daffodil weekend attracts thousands of visitors each year to view the South Cambridgeshire village's huge displays of daffodils, plus the many attractions such as live music and a food festival. Money raised from the weekend goes to local charities.
Now the race is on to get the village green cleared so that winter planting of a specially bred daffodil can go into the ground. The bulbs are called Thriplow Gold and have been specially bred and selected to honour the Daffodil Weekend.
The hitch is that a fractured and blocked drainage pipe next to the village sign needs replacing, and a technical delay for specialist equipment has held up the week.
If the pipe isn't repaired and the soil relaid on top within the next week then the bulbs can't go in in time to emerge in all their glory next spring.
At a site meeting this morning with members of the parish council, the highways engineers from the county council pledged to do all they can to fast track the work, using specialist equipment, so that the planting can go ahead.
The county have been doing good work locally filling in potholes and unblocking drains, but this is a special challenge that the village is setting them. The proof will be next year, when crowds come from across the country to view the daffodils.
