The meeting lasted over 2 hours, and after much discussion the application was approved, despite strong local opposition from the Imperial War Museum and Thriplow village. The committee voted 6-4 in favour with one abstention.
However the matter has now been passed to the Planning Inspectorate pending a decision by the Secretary of State to refer the matter. So This could still be running.
I said that it was disappointing that these two ground breaking scientific organisations - the aviation engineering at IWM, and the waste into energy work at Vetspeed - could not find a way forward over the chimney, which some claim would pose a risk to flying at Duxford.
Various experts argued the case before the committee.
This has been a long running planning application, with many public meetings and local discussion and debate. The science put forward by Vetspeed looks like a good way of disposing of waste and making good use of the energy produced - its called pyrolysis - but local concern over emissions, traffic movement along the A505, remain, together with the airfield concerns that this could lead to the end of flying at Duxford because of the risks posed by the tall chimney..
