A fresh start for derelict land in Fowlmere

Early yesterday morning (just as the sun was rising) I met with parish cllrs from Fowlmere and the chief surveyor from the county on the site near the school that is at risk of becoming a dumping ground.
The site, near Top End, was acquired by the county decades ago as a possible site for a school extension.
Now it is an overgrown area and people have over the years carefully stored bits and bobs, but now the amount of rubbish there is increasing. There are tanks of open water - so hazardous given its closeness to the school.
We agreed that the county would give people notice and then clear the land. But going further we discussed whether the land could be put on a long lease and taken over as a wildlife and community orchard area - with help from the school children too.
So a good outcome. Thanks to the county surveyor for his help.
