Roads, fords and cycling round-up!

Friday morning saw parish council chairs from round here meeting with county council highways managers to tackle progress on a series of local transport issues. Given the shortage of funds for these sorts of things its really important that we focus our efforts on what matters most and work together.
I was pleased that Hinxton and Duxford parish councils had a good meeting of minds with the county about the future of Hinxton ford, and the opening and closing of the gates.
To make it easier for cyclists to use the ford bridge when the gates are closed the muddy mess below will be replaced by the county putting in a proper little track next month. (See the pic below I took on Friday).
Duxford parish council also got agreement to get some while lines that have been worn away sorted out, and we confirmed that Liberty Lane is on the schedule for repairs.
Then off down to Ickleton to talk through the traffic calming scheme that was installed last year and which has had a few teething troubles, but they have been sorted out. We agreed that a final audit of the impact and how the scheme is working will be carried out. The next step is to get the 20 mph zone that the village has lobbied for installed. The scheme did not make it onto the short list of schemes that get county funding this year and the parish has a tough choice on whether to fund this themselves. With some 4,000 vehicles passing down Abbey Street each day, according to a survey the parish council funded last year, this is a considerable "rat-run" and a 20 mph zone would help to slow things down. If this does go ahead the county is committed to work to make sure the scheme doesn't have any glitches.
And finally back up to Pampisford and the Brewery Lane crossing issue (see previous post).
