At Hinxton progress is being made to persuade HGVs not to try to reach local businesses via the narrow village roads, with a joint initiative by the county council and the village to put simple signs up to tell drivers their sat abs cannot be relied on to get them to their destination without the risk of getting stuck in a country lane. A local business is also keen to help and has already put signs up to tell visiting drivers what to do. I have a follow up meeting with them this coming month.
Heathfield has a problem where lorries try to park up overnight in the streets there, as it is just off the A505 and drivers are prepared to chance it whereas they probably wouldn't if they were driving into a village. I think the solution by be to try to design the entrance to the Heathfield area so it looks more like a residential area and less business park like. If that means signs and hanging flower baskets for example then maybe worth a go.
