Can we have our village sign back please?

These three pics show the driver's view coming in to Whittlesford along the Newton Road. The road has trees and open land on both sides (1) and then road markings and 30mph signs and a curve (2) but nothing that indicates that round the bend there is a narrowish street (3) with cars parked and houses on both sides and more currently being built.
Now there used to be a sign, saying "Whittlesford". At least it gave people an indication they were entering the village. The sign went missing a few years back: stolen say some, "disappeared" say the County Highways, who now say that they will not replace this village sign, as it is not deemed essential.
Given the traffic, and the way that the road turns from being in open country to residential round a corner, I am arguing that some signage is indeed necessary and I have put this to the county to reconsider.
