Fowlmere - a lively debate over the future development direction

Fowlmere's annual parish meeting was well attended - well there were quiches and sausage rolls afterwards. The focus of the discussion was not - alas - my finely crafted report on the county council work over the year, nor even the village hall report or the village school report but whether the village needs more development, in terms of jobs and houses.
There appear to be two sides at least to this argument, one being that there should be scope in the great scheme of things for small rural villages, with an accepted lower level of services, but thereby free of growth and retaining their character. The other argument is that without encouraging investment in employment opportunity in the village, and allowing more housing, the community starts to atrophy.
I don't know which of those views is right, and I wouldnt want to call it for Fowlmere, but at least the debate is being had, and in the community itself.
ps Jackie, can we have the heating on in the church next year please?
