Bin and bear it!

The next blue and green bin collection for Whittlesford and Thriplow will not be until 9th January, and then the black bins will then be emptied on 16 Jan. After that it is all back to normal. But there is some way to go, and its worth thinking through what goes in which bin and how to keep on top of all the Xmas refuse.
Cards and paper go into the caddy on top of the blue bin, and squashing up plastic bottles helps get more into the blue bin. The green bin can be used for Xmas wrapping and cardboard if the blue bin is full, and kitchen waste can go in the black bin if the green bin is full. Vegetable scraps make good compost, I find. Christmas trees can go the recycling centre at some point. You can leave black bin stuff in a black bag next to it and it will be collected on 16th.
This change in the bin collection cycle comes about as part of negotiations earlier carried out by the district, where in order to make savings (some £400,000), the council changed the routes and this enabled fewer vehicles and people to be needed - so a more efficient process. As part of the negotiations, it was also agreed that there would be a longer gap between bin collections at and around Christmas.
For large families all this may not be enough, and the council wants to assess the results for residents, so do say what you think.
