Safer villages - Bidding for Highways Improvement

At the 3 parish council meetings I have been to this week the focus is very much on getting ready to bid for funding from the county highways to make roads safer.

The minor highways improvement initiative - catchy title - is a means by which county funding plus a top up from the parish council can go into schemes that local communities want to see action on. This could be something as simple as moving a 30 mph zone out to reflect the growth of a village, to a bid to put all of a village under a 20mph restriction, or an extra zebra crossing.
Thriplow for example are thinking about how to make the A505 safer for people turning off at the junction with the recycling centre and also at Heathfield.

Oh - and the county has taken receipt of an extra £1.9m to spend on pothole repair plus the £1.5m it got earlier in the year from HM Treasury. So pothole blitzing is going on across the county!
