I'm very happy to write to the District Council backing the bid by Duxford Scouts for a grant to help to go towards securing a scout hut. The scouts are an asset to both villages, Whittlesford and Duxford, and the sooner they can find a base the better. It will take a long time though to raise the substantial capital needed to build a scout hut to today's requirements.
When I was a scout we were trying to do exactly the same thing because we were fed up of meeting in the school hall, with the grumpy janitor monitoring every thing we did in case it scratched the polish on the assembly hall parquet!
The total costs would run to over £200k. Whittlesford Parish has pledged £10,000.
